DEVELOPING ACCESS TO CARE FOR EPILEPSY IN LAOS AND CAMBODIA

Sanofi

In many regions of the world, diseases like epilepsy and schizophrenia are still little understood, creating stigma as well as economic difficulties for sufferers and their families. Epilepsy, for example, is one of the most common neurological diseases that effects on average one percent of the worldwide population.

In 2007, Sanofi decided to partner with the Institute of Epidemiology and Tropical Neurology of Limoges and the Francophone Institute for Tropical Medicine in Vientiane to tackle epilepsy in Laos and Cambodia. Together, they have developed programs that combine public awareness, training of healthcare professionals, identification and management of people with epilepsy.
